Personal Information (Biography): Joseph is a native of Oklahoma City who migrated northward to join the Wayzata Children's Clinic in 1983. He attended Rice University in Houston, Texas, before entering the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Upon graduation in 1979, he began residency training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, completing an internship in Internal Medicine and then three years of Pediatric training. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics, is a lifetime member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and continues to meet Maintenance of Certification requirements through the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. McHugh was previously on the Board of Directors at St. David's Child Development and Family Services in Minnetonka, where he served as board chair, and was also on the Executive Board of the MN Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is currently a physician leader in the Dept. of Pediatrics at Ridgeview Medical Center and is a clinical faculty member in the Dept. of Pediatrics at the University of MN. His clinical interests include asthma, allergic diseases, educational issues, sports medicine, and infectious disease. Joe and his wife live in Chaska and have 2 grown daughters. In their free time they enjoy home improvement projects, gardening, anything outdoors and Twins baseball. You may also spot Joe in the trombone section of the MN Valley Community band at their various concerts.
